It's ideal for students planning careers in medicine, pharmacy, engineering, environmental science, forensic science or food technology.

What students will learn:

  • Unit 1: Chemical Principles and Applications I
    • Module 1: Fundamentals in Chemistry: atomic structure, bonding, the mole concept, energetics and the states of matter
    • Module 2: Kinetics and Equilibria: rates of reaction, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, and solubility
    • Module 3: Chemistry of the Elements: the periodic table, and the chemistry of selected groups and elements
  • Unit 2: Chemical Principles and Applications II
    • Module 1: The Chemistry of Carbon Compounds: organic chemistry, functional groups and reaction mechanisms
    • Module 2: Analytical Methods and Separation Techniques: titrations, spectroscopy, chromatography and other laboratory techniques
    • Module 3: Industry and the Environment: key chemical industries and their impact on the environment

Course features:
