CAPE

CAPE Physics

Description

Our CAPE Physics course guides students through both Units of the CXC syllabus, building a deep understanding of the laws that govern motion, energy, waves, electricity and matter, and the skills to apply them to real problems in technology, engineering and the environment. It’s ideal for students planning careers in engineering, medicine, architecture, aviation, computing or renewable energy.

What students will learn:

  • Unit 1: Mechanics, Waves, Properties of Matter
    • Module 1: Mechanics: physical quantities, SI units, motion (including projectiles, momentum, circular motion and gravitation), the effects of forces, and the conservation of energy, including renewable energy in the Caribbean
    • Module 2: Oscillations and Waves: harmonic motion, the properties of waves, and the physics of the ear and eye
    • Module 3: Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Matter: the design and use of thermometers, thermal properties, heat transfer, the kinetic theory of gases, the first law of thermodynamics and the mechanical properties of materials
  • Unit 2: Electricity and Magnetism, AC Theory and Electronics and Atomic and Nuclear Physics
    • Module 1: Electricity and Magnetism: electrical quantities, electrical circuits, electric fields, capacitors, magnetic fields, magnetic forces and electromagnetic induction
    • Module 2: AC Theory and Electronics: alternating currents, the p-n junction diode, transducers, operational amplifiers and logic gates
    • Module 3: Atomic and Nuclear Physics: the particulate nature of electromagnetic radiation, atomic structure, atomic mass and radioactivity

Course features:
